Some stories taste like home.
The Seed Story may be the newest chapter of my journey, but its roots go back much further.
Before seeds, there was The Baking Shop — my business in South Africa and a huge part of our family life for many years. As a qualified pastry chef, I spent years creating cakes, bakes and sweet treats, while my daughters grew up around flour-dusted worktops, cooling trays and the constant smell of something delicious coming from the oven.
When we moved from South Africa to the UK in 2021, I left the shop behind, but not the memories, the recipes or the part of me that had always found comfort in the kitchen.
Cooking and baking became one of the ways I stayed connected to home. Familiar recipes were adapted to ingredients available here in the UK, old favourites were rediscovered, and those flavours slowly became a way of preserving the places, people and moments I didn’t want to lose.
Over time, that journey became three recipe books: Amarula Dreams and Malva Magic, Sweet Traditions, and Nou Gaan Ons Braai.
And now they have found a natural home here at The Seed Story.
Because while this business began with unusual South African seeds, the story has always been about more than growing. It is about the memories we carry with us — the plants we recognise, the food we remember, the traditions we share and the little things that can take us straight back home.
The seeds tell one part of that story. These books tell another.
