Premium Protea Seed Sowing Mix – 500g

A lightweight, free-draining sowing mix designed for Protea-family seeds.

Made from peat-free ericaceous compost and coarse horticultural perlite, it helps provide the airy, lower-nutrient conditions that Proteaceae prefer.

What’s inside?

Each 500g pouch contains a 1:1 volumetric blend of peat-free ericaceous compost and coarse perlite.

What you need to add

Mix the contents with:

1 litre of washed horticultural sharp sand

Sharp sand is a coarse, gritty gardening sand that improves drainage. Look for “horticultural sharp sand” or “washed sharp sand” at garden centres or DIY stores.

Avoid builders’ sand, play sand or very fine sand.

Once mixed, the pouch makes approximately 3 litres of finished sowing mix, enough for around six 9cm pots depending on how they are filled.

Suitable for

Ideal for:

• King Protea – Protea cynaroides

• Common Sugarbush – Protea repens

• Orange Pincushion – Leucospermum cordifolium

• Common Sunshine Conebush – Leucadendron salignum

Not recommended for Bird of Paradise, which prefers different growing conditions.
