As the blooms mature, they shift into vibrant, glowing shades of apricot and burnt orange, making them a centerpiece in luxury floral arrangements and exotic sunrooms across the UK.
Whether you are looking for an unforgettable eco-friendly gift for a green-fingered enthusiast, bringing a touch of South African sunshine to a UK patio, or adding a rare gem to your conservatory, The Seed Story gives you everything you need for growing success.
Why our kit gets results:
In their native Cape Fynbos habitat, Leucospermum seeds rely on naturally occurring bushfire smoke chemistry to signal that conditions are right for growth. Every kit includes an authentic smoke germinating disc to break seed dormancy and dramatically improve your germination rates at home.
Fiery Gifting: Uniquely wrapped and ready to present as a memorable, eco-conscious gift for any plant lover.
UK-Friendly Growing: Loves sunny outdoor decking during warm summer months, transitioning effortlessly into bright conservatories or sunrooms over winter.
Fully Compliant: Legally imported with complete DEFRA and Gov.uk plant health passports.
Growing Instructions
Top Tip for UK Growers: Pincushions require acidic, nutrient-poor, gritty soil with excellent drainage and airflow. Never use standard multi-purpose compost or fertilisers containing phosphorus.
Smoke Priming (Essential Step): Dissolve 1/4 of the smoke germinating disc in 100ml of warm water. Soak your Pincushion seeds in this smoke solution for 24 hours prior to planting to awaken the seed embryo.
Soil Preparation: Prepare an acidic, free-draining potting mix (50% ericaceous compost blended with 50% coarse horticultural sand or perlite). Ensure your container has ample drainage holes.
Sowing: Sow the soaked seeds into the soil surface, covering lightly with a 5mm layer of coarse sand or fine grit. Press gently.
Germination: Place pots in a bright, warm location with good air circulation (ideal temperatures: 15°C–22°C with cooler nights). Keep the growing medium damp, but never waterlogged. Sprouting typically takes 4 to 8 weeks.
UK Winter Care: Protect young foliage from frosts. Keep potted Pincushions outdoors in full sun during spring and summer, then move indoors to a bright greenhouse or conservatory before winter frosts arrive.
